Preparing for a Mountaineering Trip

Personal Health – You need to be prepared first before engaging yourself into mountain climbing, like jogging 2-3 weeks before the schedule to prepare your leg muscles.

Clothing – you should wear clothes that will easily dry, not those cotton clothes and denim pants as you will be sweating profusely during the climb.

Gear – For day hikes, you don’t need Tents. But, if you want to stay overnight you need a Tent for your rest and sleep at night, also to protect you from rain, winds and insects.

Food – In preparing, food should be one of the top priority. As you need to fuel yourself to energize, and you need to prepare those type of food that are easy to cook and requires only little amount of water.

Climbing Buddies – You should bring a companion that is expert/has experienced on mountain climbing  to reduced the risk , let  other people know that you will venture into the woods.

Itinerary – creating itinerary serves as your guide on what time you will reach your destination and what time you go back, also send a copy on it to someone you knew before you start your venture.

Few important things to remember when climbing mountains:

  • Do not throw your trash anywhere, instead place it in your trash bag and bring it down the mountain and dispose of it accordingly.
  • Do not vandalize or write words on trees and rock formations.
  • Be considerate of other visitors and mountaineers. Minimize noise, like shouting, playing of loud music, etc.
  • Be respectful to the locals and their customs and traditions. Greet other people when you meet them in the trails or in towns.
  • Leave what you find. If you see something that is beautiful, please, by all means just leave it there and don’t bring it home with you.
  • Follow the “Leave no Trace” principles.

The Top 6 Tools Needed For Mountain Climbing

Mountain climbing is one tiresome sport that will make all the parts of your body work. It is not easy most especially for beginners. There are a lot of things to learn before trying out your first climb. Aside from that, there are many gears to prepare before you can even step foot on the mountain premises. 1. Footwear

You don’t expect that you can climb the mountain top with just your regular running shoes, right? You need the right footwear to be able to succeed. Get double boots with a sturdy plastic shell.

2. Crampons

It needs to be strapped or pinned in your footwear. The standard spikes required are 12 if you want to get a better chance of finishing your climb.


3. Rope

Yes, you need a rope for mountain climbing. There are just a lot of ropes available but if you are using it for a mountain climb the diameter should be at least 7.6 mm up to 10 mm.

4. Belay Device

There are a lot of Belay device available. You just need to choose which one suit you best. Choose the best based on what you are comfortable with. Put in mind that it will be used for friction on the ropes so that you won’t fall.

5. Harness

It is used to be the connecting point for your ropes to keep you safe. The best technique to get the right harness for you is to choose something that has less padding.

6. Ice Axe

When I say ice axe, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you will just be using it on a snowy mountain. It is a T-shaped axe that is used by mountaineers to pick on the ice or rocks but most especially as an anchor in cases of a fall.
